Code of Conduct and Professional Policies
The Canadian Pilates Method Society (CPMS) is committed to fostering a professional, respectful, and safe environment for educators, practitioners, students, and the broader Pilates community. All members, educators, and affiliates representing CPMS are expected to uphold the following principles of professional conduct.
Code of Conduct
Rights
Members and affiliated professionals must promote and respect the rights, dignity, and worth of every individual. All interactions should be conducted without discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, age, ability, religion, sexual orientation, or background. The Pilates environment should remain inclusive, supportive, and welcoming to all participants.
Professional Relationships
Members are expected to develop professional relationships with participants, colleagues, and other professionals that are grounded in openness, honesty, mutual trust, and respect. Communication should be constructive and ethical, fostering a collaborative and supportive professional community.
Personal Responsibilities
Members must demonstrate appropriate personal behaviour and professional conduct at all times when representing themselves as part of the CPMS community. Individuals are expected to act with integrity and fairness and to treat all participants, colleagues, and members of the public with honesty, courtesy, and consideration.
Professional Standards
Members should maintain a high level of professional competence through appropriate qualifications and a commitment to continuing education and ongoing training. Practitioners are expected to operate within their scope of practice and refer clients to qualified colleagues or other health professionals when appropriate.
Safe Working Practices
Members must prioritize the safety and well-being of their clients and participants. All activities should be properly planned and conducted in a manner that ensures safe and appropriate practice, taking into account individual needs, abilities, and health considerations.
Marketing & Member Contact Policy
The CPMS registry exists to support professional recognition and community development within the Pilates profession. Access to member information is provided for professional networking and administrative purposes only.
To ensure fairness and protect member privacy, the following guidelines apply:
CPMS member contact information may not be used for unsolicited marketing or promotional outreach without prior authorization from CPMS.
Educators wishing to promote workshops, courses, or educational opportunities to CPMS members must first:
Register with CPMS as an Educator
Submit their educational offerings for review and approval through the CPMS workshop submission process.
Each workshop or educational event must be submitted individually for review and approval.
Once approved, educators may promote their offerings within the CPMS community in accordance with CPMS promotional guidelines.
The use of CPMS directories, registry listings, or publicly available member information for direct solicitation without prior approval may be considered a violation of the CPMS Code of Conduct.
These guidelines help maintain fairness for all educators while protecting the integrity and privacy of CPMS members.
Privacy & Use of Registry Information
CPMS respects the privacy of its members and is committed to protecting personal information.
Information listed within the CPMS registry, including names, professional details, and contact information, is provided to support professional recognition, networking, and verification of credentials within the Pilates community.
Members and visitors to the CPMS website agree that:
Registry information may not be copied, harvested, or used for bulk marketing or solicitation.
Member contact information may not be used for unsolicited promotional emails, messages, or recruitment.
Registry information may only be used for legitimate professional communication related to Pilates education, professional collaboration, or CPMS-related activities.
Any misuse of registry information may result in removal of access privileges or further review under CPMS policies.
CPMS reserves the right to modify or restrict registry access where necessary to protect member privacy and maintain the integrity of the registry.
Educator Approval & Workshop Submission Guidelines
CPMS supports continuing education and professional development opportunities for the Pilates community. To maintain quality and professional standards, educators must follow the CPMS educator approval process before promoting workshops to CPMS members.
Educator Registration
Individuals wishing to promote educational offerings through CPMS must first register as an approved CPMS Educator.
This process may require submission of:
Professional biography
Teaching credentials or certifications
Relevant professional experience
Description of educational focus or specialty
Workshop Submission
All workshops, courses, or educational events must be submitted individually for review before promotion within the CPMS community.
Submissions should include:
Workshop title and description
Learning objectives
Instructor information
Date, location, and format (in-person or online)
Intended audience and experience level
Review Process
CPMS will review submissions to ensure that educational offerings align with the CPMS goal of professional standards supporting quality Pilates education.
Once approved:
Workshops may be listed or promoted through CPMS communication channels.
Advertise on the CPMS website
Educators may reference their approved workshop when communicating with CPMS members in accordance with CPMS policies.
CPMS reserves the right to decline or request revisions to submissions that do not meet professional or educational standards.
Complaints and Ethics Review Process
CPMS is committed to maintaining high professional and ethical standards within the Pilates community. If a member, participant, or member of the public believes that a CPMS member or affiliated professional has acted in violation of this Code of Conduct, a formal complaint may be submitted.
Submitting a Complaint
Complaints must be submitted in writing and include:
The name of the individual involved
A clear description of the concern or alleged misconduct
Relevant dates, locations, or supporting documentation where available
Complaints should be submitted through the official CPMS contact listed on the website.
Review Process
Upon receipt of a complaint:
The matter will be reviewed by CPMS administration or a designated ethics committee.
The individual named in the complaint may be contacted and given an opportunity to respond.
CPMS may review supporting documentation and gather additional information where necessary.
Possible Outcomes
Following review, CPMS may determine appropriate actions, including:
Informal resolution or professional guidance
Written warning
Temporary suspension of privileges or listings
Removal from the CPMS registry or educator listings in cases of serious or repeated violations
All complaints will be handled with appropriate confidentiality and fairness to all parties involved.
