EDUCATION

The Canadian Pilates Method Society (CPMS) exists to support the long-term integrity, clarity, and evolution of Pilates in Canada. Guided by our mission to serve the profession through collaboration, transparency, and informed governance, CPMS provides a national framework that respects the diversity of Pilates practice while protecting educational and professional standards.

Our Role

CPMS is not a certifying body and does not endorse specific products, schools, or methodologies. In alignment with our vision for a sustainable and respected Pilates profession, CPMS:

  • Reviews and recognizes Pilates education

  • Assigns Continuing Education Credits (CECs)

  • Classifies education by scope and approach

  • Maintains a transparent, nationally consistent educational framework

Who We Serve

CPMS supports and collaborates with:

  • Pilates equipment manufacturers providing education on the safe and effective use of their equipment

  • Registered CPMS Educators facilitating workshops and educational series

  • Insured educational institutions offering Pilates certification programs

Education We Recognize

Recognized education may include:

  • Equipment-based workshops

  • Specialty and approach-specific education

  • Pilates Mat and Reformer certifications

  • Fitness-based equipment certifications

  • Comprehensive Pilates certifications utilizing the full apparatus system

Educational Classification

To promote clarity across the profession, all recognized education is classified into one of four categories:

  • Fitness

  • Contemporary

  • Clinical

  • Classical

These classifications are descriptive rather than hierarchical and are intended to support informed decision-making by practitioners, studios, and the public.

Continuing Education Credits (CECs)

Eligible workshops and educational offerings may receive CPMS Continuing Education Credits based on scope, relevance, and clearly defined learning outcomes.

Our Commitment to the Profession

In support of CPMS’s vision for generations to come, our educational governance framework is designed to evolve alongside the profession. By fostering cooperation among educators, manufacturers, and institutions, CPMS aims to strengthen professional trust, public confidence, and educational integrity within Pilates across Canada.
